Overview

Thursday, July 5 and Tuesday, July 10, 2018 - Dufferin and Northumberland Counties

The purpose of the Forage Expos is to showcase innovations in forage production to Ontario producers. The event is a joint effort between the Ontario Forage Council, local Soil and Crop Improvement Associations, and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Two events are held annually; one in the eastern part of Ontario, and one in the west. This year, the Dufferin county location had approximately 300 attendees, while the Northumberland county site had approximately 200.

Topics presented were new developments in forage production in the following operations:

  • Mowing
  • Tedding
  • Raking and merging
  • Baling
  • Accumulating
  • Wrapping

Key learnings from this event were identifying factors that make the best quality hay for all types of livestock.
